About Us

The Penobscot Bay YMCA is a community-based, nonprofit organization serving 5,000 members, over 1,000 program participants, as well as community residents throughout Knox and parts of Waldo and Lincoln Counties through community health outreach programs. The Y’s mission is to be a cornerstone of our healthy community, fostering partnerships, providing programs and services and promoting youth development, healthy living and social responsibility to improve the quality of life for everyone. We offer a robust array of programs and services for community members of all ages, including fitness, aquatics, early child care centers, after school programs at four elementary schools, summer camps, as well as evidence-based wellness programs, seniors outreach programs, nutrition education in schools, substance use prevention education, and much more. Most importantly, we believe that no one should be turned away due to the inability to pay, so we raise funds each year to provide financial assistance for members and program participants. Members can enjoy our 62,000 square foot facility in Rockport -- featuring a lap and therapy pool, sauna, climbing wall, indoor play gym, gymnasium, fitness equipment, and fitness studio -- as well as the 24/7 fitness facility at our Rockland Harbor branch.
