Grounded in the principles of focusing, a practice akin to meditation, participants will embark on a journey of self-exploration, tapping into their internal landscape of thoughts, emotions, and sensations. The workshop will provide a safe and nurturing environment for individuals to engage with their felt sense – a holistic experience encompassing various facets of their being.
Through the expressive mediums of paint, pastel, and collage, attendees will learn to articulate their inner experiences creatively. Focusing and mindfulness techniques will guide participants in embracing the present moment with curiosity and kindness, free from judgment and preconceptions.
Barbara Davis, who will be facilitating the workshop, emphasizes the transformative potential of the creative arts: "So often we get stuck in black and white thinking, or thoughts about what we 'should' do, think, or feel. Focusing offers us the possibility of being with all of our experience in a non-judgmental, friendly manner." Focusing on our internal felt sense and our creativity offers us a way to settle into the whole of our experience, calm our central nervous systems, and have a new experience.
One of the unique aspects of the workshop is its inclusivity – no prior art experience is necessary. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a novice, all are welcome to join in this exploration of creativity and wellness. While this workshop is designed for adults and older teens, children are welcome to attend with their parents or caregivers.
